21 Things I Have Learnt at 21
A month ago I turned 21. I thought it might be a nice idea to reflect on some of the things I have learnt in my many years on earth…
Brown eyeliner suits you more than black.
You are much more capable of doing hard things than you think you are.
Good friends are the ones that can grow with you.
Following on from that, your best friends are not necessarily your oldest ones (although luckily you have a few who are both).
Spending time with people who make you laugh is really important.
Yellow is not your colour (as much as you want it to be).
Sometimes singing, songwriting and knowing that feelings are transitory will be the only things that make you feel better.
Being kind isn’t about making sure everyone is happy all the time.
Catastrophising is really unhelpful even though you still do it, all the time!
Your best friends do not prioritise boys over their friendship with you.
ALWAYS backup your work on a hard drive or cloud.
Liking pop music isn’t cool, but who cares?
Just because everyone is doing something, doesn’t mean you have to.
Internet advice is absolutely terrible 90% of the time.
The loudest person in the room isn’t necessarily the most confident one.
Your family won’t always have the answers.
In general, adding more garlic and more lemon to a recipe isn’t going to hurt.
Be careful who you talk to about boys/relationships/love.
You are really good at making friends.
Listening to music LOUD is a simple pleasure that never misses.
The nights where you get out of your head are always the best ones.
